The Centre for Political & Social Research (CPSR) established in 2017, aims to support interdisciplinary research on pressing socio-political concerns of the times. The idea behind setting up CPSR was to go beyond the disciplinary silos in which social science and humanities research is often conducted. Some of the themes that faculty and students pursue individual and collaborative research are nationalism, democracy, identity, citizenship, and violence. The Chair approaches these topics in a way that brings together perspectives from political science, sociology/anthropology, philosophy, and history.
CPSR regularly organizes seminars, conferences and discussion groups, where we invite scholars from different disciplines and at different career stages. These events give students of RNB Global University an opportunity to engage with ideas and themes across schools. The centre also encourages student-led events, and faculty mentorship of student-led initiatives in research and writing.
Since its establishment in 2017, the Center for Political and Social Research (CPSR) has been dedicated to discussing and disseminating knowledge on socio-political issues. The center enables a dramatic shift among stakeholders, working to forge connections between the social sciences and the humanities, and to discover the lineage of politics and ethics.
At the center, we believe that ideas arise from everyday social and political practice. Therefore, we believe that an important function of intellectuals is to approach, express and critically comment on these practices. By being vigilant about the ways ordinary people negotiate and transform the world, and by generating alternative systems and imaginations, CPSR challenges the lines of social and political change. This often leads to productive tensions between rigorous academic work and active social movements, between academic engagement and political commitment.
This diversity of activities and agendas helps sustain in an environment where we are constantly forced to ask our own perspectives and learn from each other.
In this spirit, faculty and students enjoy complete freedom to pursue individual research interests and to collaborate with each other or with academics outside the center.
The Center values its autonomy and continued significant presence in the public sphere, and is widely respected for it. Imagining alternatives to our own social, political and economic problems in different cultural contexts is an activity highly valued by all who work at the center.
The center conducts various activities like
