Bikaner, 28th Feb 2017: 28thFebruary is celebrated as National Science Day each year to mark the discovery of the “Raman Effect by Indian physicist Dr. C V Raman, on this very day. Dr. Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman was knighted in 1929 and in 1930, was awarded the Nobel Prize for this remarkable discovery. It was the first Nobel Prize won by an Indian or, for that matter, an Asian in the field of Science.
The idea behind celebrating this day as, “National Science Day” is not only to credit Dr CV Raman’s discovery but also to generate interest and passion amongst the youth for the subject of science and for our youth to question, rethink, analyze “the existing “and push the frontiers of what can be done and achieved in the field of science in the coming years. National Science Day aims to recognize the achievements of a fellow Indian, so as to instill pride and confidence amidst our scientific community and to widely spread the message of the significance of scientific applications in the daily life of the people.
While each year the National Science day has a set theme, this year the theme was, “Science and Technology for the Specially Abled Persons’. At RNBGU to commemorate this day, the School of Basic and Applied Sciences and School of Engineering & Technology, organized a Science Quiz Competition in its campus. There were 10 teams that participated from different schools of RNBGU in the event. It was an informative, interactive and entertaining event, along with the stiff competition that existed amongst the teams. Finally the winning teams were as follows:
- Umang Khatri & Dalip Nai (B.SC. IV Sem) – Winners
- Lovepreet Singh & Soju Joseph (B.SC. IV Sem) – 1st runners up
- Simranleen Singh & Prabhjot Kaur (BSC II Sem) – 2nd runners up
On being asked how they felt winning the quiz, Soju Joseph cheerfully commented, “I feel like a genius”. And that was the only purpose of this event - “creating scientific geniuses”.
Congratulations to all of our participants and the very Best of Luck to our future scientists.
