Webinar on “Protective Discrimination under Constitution of India”

Mar 22, 2018

School of Law, RNB Global University organised the webinar on Protective Discrimination under Constitution of India. Dr. A.P. Singh, Professor of Law, Indra Prastha University was the resource person.

The point of discussion was reservation system and affirmative action. Covering this topic is especially relevant because of its close friendly relation with the variety of subjects like Constitutional Law, Family Law and Administrative Law that are getting covered in the current semester. During the webinar he said that The Supreme Court has said that the constitution lays down provisions both for protective discrimination as also affirmative action. It may be noted that the right to equality has been declared by the Supreme Court as a basic feature of the constitution. The constitution is wedded to the concept of equality.

The entire enlightening event was followed by an interactive session in which students raised concern on different issues like how far reservation system carries relevancy in today’s scenario; why social justice could not be achieved as of now; whether India should adopt the model of USA on affirmative action and so on.
