Makar Sankranti Festive Season at RNB Global University

Jan 14, 2017

Makar Sankranti marks the end of Malmaas, an inauspicious month in the Hindu (Panchang) calendar, and the transition of the Sun to the zodiacal sign of Makar (Capricorn) to herald a change in season. It is celebrated in the north as Lohri, in Assam as Bhogali Bihu and in the south as Pongal.

On 14th Jan 2017, RNB Global University celebrated Makar Sankranti in university campus. The custom of flying kites is associated with Makar Sankranti. People fly kites on this day because by doing it unknowingly they receive the benefits of sun exposure. During winter, our body gets infected and suffers with cough and cold and the skin also gets dry during this season. When Sun moves in Uttarayana, its rays act as medicine for the body. During kite flying the human body is continuously exposed to sun rays, which eradicates most of the infections and insanitation. Thus a Kite flying competition was also organised at the university.

All the students from the different schools took part in the competition, these were different group for boys and girls and different prizes also given for 1st and 2nd winner. Mr Umesh Jain BBA II semester was the winner and Mr Saurabh Quadri B.Tech II semester was the winner. This was an opportunity for all the students and staff to reminisce this old tradition and enjoy it will full vigour in the open welcoming the sun with hues of kites!

All staff and faculty members were also the part of the competition, as all enjoyed the Indian festival of “Makar Sankranti”.
