Webinar on Application of Partial Differential Equations

A webinar was organized for the students of B-Sc II Semester by the Department of Mathematics, SOBAS, RNBGU. Dr. Kalpana Sharma, Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics, Manipal University Jaipur was the speaker of the session was. The objective of the webinar was to discuss and make the students understand the practical applications of PDE which is the integral part of the curriculum of their semester paper, Differential Equations.
 
In the session Dr. Kalpana briefed the students about classification of second order linear partial Differential Equation viz. Elliptical, Hyperbolic and Parabolic nature of linear PDE. She also discussed about one dimensional, two dimensional heats and wave equation, their solution using method of separation of variables. The speaker made the students understand the concepts with the help of numerical related to heat and wave equations.
 
In the end of the session the students raised their queries related to the topic like difference between ordinary Differential Equations and Partial Differential Equations, meaning of Linear Partial Differential Equations, order and degree of Partial Differential Equations. The students got detailed insight about the difference between one dimensional and two dimensional heat equation which was explained with the help of a solid iron bar besides this the students also got the opportunity to learn about wave equation with the help of a string.
