Life as a Law Student - 7 Things You Really Need to Know

It’s no secret that law school is gruelling. You have long days and even longer nights. You spend all your free time studying and writing papers, training in legal cases, seminars, workshops, court visits, mooting and debating. And, perhaps the most daunting of all, you leave your social life behind, at least during your BA LLB.
 
But did you know that law school is also exhilarating? That there are many benefits of pursuing your law school dreams? If you’re ready to discover the things you didn’t know about a day in the life of a law student in India, keep reading.

A quick look at an actual daily routine of a 2nd-year law student 

It is suggestive and may vary depending on your syllabus, specialisation, interests and the course year. But you can get the general idea.
 
  • 7:30 am Wake up! 
  • 8:30 am Complete breakfast and packing. 
  • 9:00 am Arrive at the school. Get copies, prints, and study materials ready (if possible, for the next couple of days, too. That saves time!) 
  • 9:30 am Criminal Law class
  • 11:00 am Constitutional Law class
  • 1:00 pm Academic excellence class
  • (lunch in-between)
  • 2:15 p.m. Contracts class
  • 3:30 p.m. Study / read
  • 6:00 pm Evening snacks
  • 7:00 pm study, read, extra-curricular works 
  • 9:00 pm Head home
  • 10:30 p.m. Dinner

What does it mean to be a law student or why study law?

3. You get to study something you love 

It can be an absolute joy to spend your days studying something you love. For many, that something is the law, and if you are one of them, your time at law school will be the best part of your life. 
 
Even if you don’t have dreams of becoming a lawyer, there are many other jobs in the legal field that will allow you to continue to study law. For example, most paralegals work with lawyers and need expertise in this area. Most judges also rely on their legal knowledge to make decisions for cases.
